CORES™

CORES™ Hinchinbrook is moving forward with its informative program in the COmmunity Response to Eliminating Suicide (CORES™). The aim of this program is to inform local community members of the strategies to help recognize the symptoms of potential tragedy in family, friends and peers and the steps to intervene and prevent such tragic heartache of suicide.
CORES™ Australia has given us the go ahead to train new CORES™ Facilitators in early February.  When this program began in 2009, we had ten (10) facilitators to present the One Day Training to any member of the community who nominated to participate. Later on, four (4) more facilitators came on board.  However, as happens with natural attrition, people have moved on to new jobs, relocated or just could not continue to commit to this voluntary, sometimes demanding of their free time, but  much needed cause.
Currently, we have three facilitators, myself, Diana Friday and Darrel Overs.  As of the end of Facilitator Training we will add to the team, Ian Cameron, Megan Lawlor, Kathy Gardiner and Michelle Mariani. I commend and thank them for putting their hands up to take on such a volunteer committment  but assure them it will bring them great personal rewards.
Please allow me to thank past and present CORES™ Facilitators for their outstanding contribution to this community. Their work has been invaluable.

Supporting Back to School!

The Hinchinbrook Community Support Centre is gearing up for a busy “back to school” period.  Having had a much earned Christmas break, the Hub has opened its doors in time to receive a very generous donation of stationery supplies from Father Damien and the parishioners of St Patrick’s, St Teresa’s and St Peter’s Catholic Churches.  This includes pencils, pens, highlighters, sharpeners and rubbers, glue, textas, coloured pencils, rulers, lunch boxes, drink bottles, back packs, tissues and reams of paper.   We have also received generous donations from other individuals and organisations in Ingham, including, Ingham Home Rosary Group, Bendigo Bank and Ingham Newsagency on Cartwright Street.
From day one of school the potential for great educational outcomes is improved if children have all the resources and books required.  It is paramount that we value education and support local families getting their children to school.
Any family  needing support due to hardship to get their children ready for school is asked to bring the book list for each child.  Appointments can be made from this coming Monday, 11th January 2016, by phoning The Hub on 4776 1822.
We will be receiving donations up until school starts, any cash donations are welcomed, since they will allow us to purchase text books through local newsagencies.  Any donations can be dropped off at the Hub at McIlwraith Street, cash are tax deductible, since the Hinchinbrook Community Support Centre is a registered charity.
