Organisations from both Townsville and Ingham provided information about the services available to our community and entertainment was provided by the Abergowrie College Torres Strait Islander Dancers, an art competition was conducted with students from local primary and secondary schools asked to paint or draw their version of a safer family. The manager of the Men’s Shed was our cook and he prepared sausages and onions on the BBQ which everyone who attended thoroughly enjoyed. The face painting tent was very popular, as was the Lower Herbert Blue Light Association games trailer.
This was the first time this type of event was held in our community to create Domestic and Family Violence Awareness in the Hinchinbrook Community. We managed to get approximately 50 in attendance, taking into consideration that the council had dug up the footpath making access impossible, a few days before the event. We look forward to returning the event to our community again next year which will be bigger and better!
We would like to thank everyone who was involved in our Safer Families Community Event. In particular the local businesses who donated prizes and supported the event.
