8th March: International Women's Day

The theme: Opportunity is knocking International Women's Day (IWD) is recognised globally on 8 March each year. This iconic international day is the most significant annual event for the women's sector in Australia and is an ideal platform to celebrate the achievements of ordinary women in creating a society that is fair to all and the issues that many women still face, both here and around the world.

HCSC staff celebrated International Women's Day on Friday afternoon at 2:00 PM (7th March) at the new building on McIlwraith street. Local women were invited to drop in at the HUB and listen to our guest speakers addressing this year's theme "opportunity is knocking".

The guest speakers inspired attendees as they spoke about opportunities that they had seized and continue to embrace both in their personal and professional life. Topics touched on health and fitness opportunities, education and vocational training availabilities in our community, business and personal growth prospects, and reconciliation challenges and opportunities.

International Women’s Day provides the perfect occasion to promote Queensland’s great opportunities, and what this means for Hinchinbrook Shire women. With Queensland’s four pillar economy on the rise, new opportunities are emerging for women in our tourism, agriculture, resources and construction industries.

2014: A New Chapter for HCSC

2/3/2014

2014 will be a significant year for the Hinchinbrook Community Support Centre as we open the doors of a new building and begin a new chapter in our life as providers of key services in our community.
In 2013, the acquisition of the old Forestry Building in McIlwraith street marked the first page in this chapter of change. An enormous amount of planning and organizing has occurred behind the scenes, and over the past months the HCSC Social Enterprise Team have worked hard to give the building a much needed face-lift.
Importantly, services will be provided from both buildings. In particular, all bookings for the "Out and About Bus", including departures for Townsville, will remain at the HCSC Centre where senior and youth groups will also continue to use the community room.  Visiting services from Townsville will operate from both buildings whilst Emergency Relief food support, Emergency and Long Term Accommodation, Domestic Violence support, and Youth services will be available at the new HCSC HUB.
For all enquiries please contact HCSC staff on 4776 1822.
Come and visit our new building: The HUB
